How long do LAFCO candles burn?
What are some optimal burning tips?
Light the candle on a heat-resistant surface within sight and away from drafts,
children, and pets.
After the first burn, trim the wick to 1/4” before each subsequent burn or when the wick “mushrooms” to maintain a clean burn. No trim is necessary for the first burn.
To prevent tunneling and to ensure an even burn, allow the melt pool to reach the walls of the vessel every use. This can take up to 4 hours depending on the size of the candle.
Keep the wick centered at all times so the candle burns evenly. Keep the wax pool free of matches, wick trimming and other debris.
How to extinguish after each burn:
To extinguish your candle without smoke, use a candle snuffer to gently push the wick into the melt pool.
Once extinguished, carefully lift the wick up and re-center it. You can also gently blow out the flame. Always let the candle cool for 12 hours before relighting.
At the end of the candle life: If the candle does not self-extinguish as it is designed to do, discontinue use when 1/2” of wax remains at the bottom of the vessel. Once your candle is finished, re-purpose the hand-blown glass vessel.

Where are LAFCO candles made?
LAFCO candles are hand poured and boxed in the United States.
What are the ingredients in a LAFCO candle?
Our candle formula is simple: soy wax, a small amount of paraffin wax to enhance
the fragrance delivery, essential oil-based fragrance and a 100% unbleached
cotton wick (or wicks). Our wicks and fragrance blends are free of dyes,
propellants and other synthetic ingredients to deliver a natural and true scent.
Why do you use soy in your candles?
We use soy wax because it is a renewable, biodegradable, non-toxic and carbon
neutral resource. Our wax releases fragrance gradually due to the pure and slow
burn characterized by solid soy wax. Candles that are made of soy tend to be
clean burning and long lasting.
Why is there wax left at the bottom of my candle and it won’t relight?
LAFCO candles are designed to self-extinguish, leaving ½ to one inch of wax at
the bottom of the vessel. Once your candle is finished, re-purpose the glass
vessel.
Why is my candle tunneling / have wax on the inside of the glass?
The right way to burn a candle is to let it burn until the top layer of wax is
completely melted across the top of the vessel. This is especially important on
the initial burn, but consistently burning this way will ensure your candle
burns evenly throughout its use. Keep in mind that this could take a couple of
hours, depending on the size of the candle, so try not to light your candle
unless you can give it the time it needs to burn evenly. As an added bonus,
burning your candle for longer periods of time means that the fragrance will be
stronger. Keep the candle away from drafts or moving air – this includes fans,
air conditioners, open windows, and areas where people travel back and forth.
Moving air disturbs the flame, leading to an uneven burn.
Can the candle cup be repurposed?
Once your candle is finished, re-purpose the hand-blown glass vessel. Learn how
to clean remaining wax from the vessel and ideas for what to repurpose your
vessel into
here.
How do I remove the wax when my candle is finished?
Let your LAFCO candle cool to room temperature. Place the glass vessel in the
freezer and leave it overnight to harden the wax. Scrape out the hardened wax
with a butter knife, using care not to crack the glass. To remove any final
traces of wax, place the vessel in the sink and fill with warm water. Let the
vessel soak for a few hours – any remaining wax should have solidified at the
top. Remove the solidified wax then wash the vessel with soap and water.
Why is there black soot around the rim of my candle?
Keep the candle away from drafts or moving air – this includes fans, air
conditioners, open windows, and areas where people travel back and forth. Moving
air disturbs the flame, leading to an uneven burn and can cause the formation of
soot marks on the glass. We advise using a wick dipper to extinguish the candle
rather than blowing it out. This dips the wick into the melt pool and
immediately puts out the flame eliminating soot.
Why is there oil on the top of the candle?
When the weather is warm, some of the natural oils may sweat in the wax. This is
a natural occurrence and not a defect. Simply burn your candle and it will be reabsorbed.
What safety precautions can I take when lighting my candle?
Light the candle on a heat-resistant surface within sight and away from drafts,
children, and pets. Do not move or touch the candle while it is lit. For more
safety tips, learn more
here.
Can I get a sample of the fragrance before purchasing?
We offer over 30 unique fragrance options, so we created our
Discovery Trio
which allows you to sample different fragrances. You pick three different fragrances to
sample for $20 (shipping included). We will email you a code for $20 which can
be applied to your next full-sized purchase. Each fragrance sample in the
Discovery Trio is 0.43 ounces.
Can I put my candle in the microwave to melt the remaining wax?
We do not recommend you put your candle in the microwave. At the bottom of the
cotton wick is a metal base to keep it in place. Metal and microwaves are not friends.
Why has my wax turned yellow?
Natural ingredients in our fragrances can cause candle wax to oxidize. This does
not affect the fragrance integrity or the burning experience.
Why is the wick off center?
If you notice your wick is off center, the candle may burn unevenly and form
soot on the side of the glass. This can pose a safety hazard if the glass gets
too hot when the flame nears the side of the vessel. In this case, extinguish
the candle immediately and use a wick dipper or tweezer to re-center the wick.
Sink the wick dipper or tweezer down into the melted wax about 1/2" and gently
push the wick towards the center. Never pull on the wick as you could pull the
wick completely out of the candle. Let the wax harden before relighting the
candle.
What kind of wicks does LAFCO use?
LAFCO uses 100% cotton wicks. The cotton wick is critical to creating a candle
that burns clean and properly. We choose 100% cotton wicks because they do not
release harmful chemicals and/or metals into your breathing air. Our wicks are
made of braided cotton fibers which encourages a slow and consistent burn for
long lasting home fragrance. We never use metal or other synthetic materials in
any of our wick.
How long do LAFCO diffusers last?
Signature Reed Diffusers 15 fl oz last up to 1 year. Classic Reed Diffusers 6 fl
oz last up to 4 months. Reed Diffuser Refill 8.4 fl oz last up to 6 months. The
number of reeds inserted into the bottle and the number of times the reeds are
flipped will affect the longevity and strength of the fragrance.
What are some tips to using a LAFCO diffuser?
Place the diffuser glass vessel on a non-porous surface. When flipping the
reeds, ensure that no oil leaks or drips. If the diffuser oil spills, the spill
must be cleaned immediately. Oils and resins can cause damage to finishes and
fabrics. Do not consume the diffuser oil and do not let it splash onto your
eyes. The solution is not meant for use on skin. Upon skin contact, wash with
soap and water immediately. Keep away from children and pets. The reed diffuser
oil is not developed for use in water-based aromatherapy diffusers of
humidifiers and can damage your devices. Keep the diffusers away from direct
sunlight and from heat sources to prevent the reeds from drying out prematurely.
How fragrant are LAFCO diffusers?
The Signature Reed Diffuser 15 fl oz comes with 16 reeds; the Classic Reed
Diffuser 6 fl oz comes with 8 reeds. The best way to regulate the concentration
of the fragrance is by adding or removing reeds. We recommend 6 to 8 reeds for
normal sized rooms and up to all 16 reeds in the Signature Reed Diffuser for
extra-large spaces. To increase the intensity of the scent, carefully flip the
reeds for a fragrance boost. Use caution when doing this as the liquid can cause
damage to finishes and fabrics.
What should I do when the diffuser is finished? Can I repurpose the vessel?
We love to see our customers practice sustainable living. Refill your vessel
with more fragrance )diffuser refills 8 fl oz are sold on our website and at
select retailers where LAFCO diffusers are sold(. The vessels can also be
repurposed in many ways.
My diffuser is stuck on my table/surface/furniture. What do I do?
Do not pull the glass away from the surface. Instead, take a natural oil (i.e.
mineral oil) and use a paintbrush to push the oil in around the bottom of the
diffuser vessel. The oil will loosen the vessel from the surface. You may have
to repeat the process. Once the diffuser glass is separated from the surface,
thoroughly clean the surface.
Does LAFCO sell diffuser refills?
We offer Diffuser Refill 8.4 fl oz options for all reed diffuser fragrances.
What are the ingredients in LAFCO reed diffusers?
Our reed diffuser formula is simple: highly concentrated essential oil-based
fragrances, carrier oils and natural wood reeds.
What is the best way to dispose of the diffuser oil once it is finished?
Discard the remnant diffuser oil in the trash. Diffuser oil spills should be
absorbed with cloth or paper towel and disposed of in the trash according to
local regulations.
How long do LAFCO room mists last?
Room Mist 4 fl oz last up to 750 spritzes. A single spray of room mist can fill
an average sized room. Each spray provides between 1 – 2 hours of lasting
fragrance.
What are some tips for using LAFCO room mist?
Our room mists are versatile – they can be used to create instant ambiance in
any room, office and even the car. A single spray of room mist can fill an
average sized room. Each spray provides between 1 – 2 hours of lasting
fragrance. Use additional sprays if you desire a stronger fragrance. LAFCO room

Palm oil, a product that has a devastating impact on the environment, will never
be found in LAFCO products.
What are some tips for using LAFCO bar soap?
Store LAFCO bar soap on a surface that doesn’t retain water and encourages air
flow (like a soap dish). Use a washcloth or loofah to generate more lather.
Super fatted with argan oil, a process that provides superior moisturizing and
emollient qualities, LAFCO bar soaps are rich enough to use as shaving cream.

- or call toll free at 800.362.3677
If the soaps are natural, what are the chemical-like names in the ingredients?
LAFCO bar soaps are completely natural and do not have chemical preservatives.
Our bar soap is made in Europe, where legislation requires all ingredients in
natural fragrances to be listed. For example, some of our soaps contain Coumarin
(naturally found in tonka, vanilla and cinnamon) or Eugenol (clove essential
oil).
Why does the bar soap feel like it is not rinsing properly?
LAFCO bar soap has an olive oil base, but it is “superfatted” with argan oil.
The term superfatting refers to the addition of extra oil to the soap recipe
during milling. Superfatting increases the moisturizing qualities of the soap,
making it more beneficial to the skin. The argan oil remains after rinsing for
ultimate hydration, which may feel as though the soap is not rinsing properly.
